Distributeur officiel Shelby en France, American Car City propose toutes les créations du préparateur texan depuis plusieurs années et 2021 s’annonce comme un cru, une nouvelle fois, exceptionnel. Ladite « boite à serpents » – des mots mêmes utilisés par la firme – regorge d’espèces plus agressives que jamais. La Shelby GT ouvre le bal avec son V8 5.0l Coyote de 480 HP (487 chevaux) qui s’exprime à travers un échappement Borla. Si ça ne suffit pas, un kit de suralimentation Ford Performance est disponible pour faire grimper la puissance à plus de 700 HP (710 chevaux) ! La GT par Shelby se distingue également d’une Mustang GT par ses sièges en cuir Katzkin brodés Shelby, ses jantes spécifiques 20 pouces ainsi que son écope de capot. En parallèle de la GT500 produite sous licence par Ford, Shelby proposera sa GT500SE – pour Signature Edition – qui culmine cette fois à plus de 800 HP (811 chevaux) ! Ce gain significatif est notamment permis par une poulie de compresseur plus petite et un système de refroidissement encore retravaillé pour tirer tout le potentiel de la SE dans les meilleures conditions.
La gamme 2021 atteint son paroxysme avec la nouvelle Super Snake sévèrement bodybuildée quand on opte pour le kit carrosserie Widebody. En version Speedster – stricte 2 places – elle affiche un tout autre visage, plus proche d’un concept car. Le couvre-tonneau rigide recouvre l’ensemble de la rangée arrière avec une grande élégance et des jantes en aluminium forgé de 20 pouces peaufinent le style. De l’aveu même de Gary Patterson, président de Shelby American, « Il n’y a tout simplement rien de tel sur la route. […] Il s’agit de l’équivalent automobile d’un boxeur puissant et lourd intégré dans un costume élégant et raffiné. ». Quand Monsieur Patterson évoque le terme « puissant », ce n’est pas pour blaguer. « Toujours plus » pourrait être l’adage de Shelby quand on apprend que la Super Snake 2021 atteindra le chiffre fou de 825 HP (836 chevaux), soit 65 HP de plus que la GT500 ! C’est toujours un gros compresseur Whipple qui se charge de la suralimentation du V8 5.0L. L’ensemble bénéficie d’un refroidissement extrême exclusif Shelby, de freins Brembo spécifiques Shelby et d’un échappement Borla. Il est complété par un Pack piste Ford Performance. Le client peut opter au choix pour une boite automatique 10 vitesses (avec système de refroidissement) ou une boite manuelle 6 vitesses avec levier à course courte (pour des changements de rapports plus rapides). La Shelby Super Snake 2021 atteindrait le 0 à 60 miles (97 km/h) en pas plus de 3,5 secondes.
